“Zone Furtive’s drawings could depict a drift in an ecosystem with vast expanses, a kind of complex atmosphere composed of a multitude of strata and situations. Pervasive confusion as to the scale and representation of subjects blurs the reading of the images. The series could have come from an observation device flying over a rugged topography from which a collection of photographs was stolen. The series of drawings Zone Furtive follows an earlier volume of Guillaume Dénervaud’s work, Draisine Furtive (TSAR 9). The idea of this new book is soon to be grafted on to the idea of a text that interacts with the drawings. To escape from the classical formats and in keeping with his interest in science fiction, Guillaume Dénervaud calls upon Mark von Schlegell. The literary practice of this writer and theorist is inspired and woven from the visual arts and cultural criticism. After several exchanges of materials and discussions, their meeting leads to Coming of Age: Robotics, a short story in English by Mark von Schlegell that tells the story of the journey of Olivii_A, an android who got on the wrong bus. Reaffirming his desire to offer keys to reading rather than formal interpretations, Guillaume Dénervaud decides to avoid the gesture of translation. He then invites the curator and author Barbara Sirieix to join the dialogue. Written in French, the text, Callum Hills, acts as a third sedimentary layer. It resonates both with Mark von Schlegell’s short story and with Guillaume Dénervaud’s drawings. Although they overlap chronologically and function autonomously, the three elements of this book are observed, respond to each other and attempt to form a whole.

La série de dessins Zone Furtive fait suite à un premier volume des travaux de Guillaume Dénervaud, (TSAR 9). À l’idée de ce nouveau livre se greffe bientôt celle d’un texte qui viendrait dialoguer avec les dessins. Pour sortir des formats classiques et en écho à son intérêt pour la science-fiction, Guillaume Dénervaud fait appel à Mark von Schlegell. La pratique littéraire de cet écrivain et théoricien s’inspire et se tisse à même les arts visuels et la cultural critic. Après plusieurs échanges de matériaux et de discussions, leur rencontre débouche sur Coming of Age : Robotique, une nouvelle en anglais de Mark von Schlegell qui raconte le voyage d’Olivii_A, une androïde qui s’est trompée de bus. Réaffirmant sa volonté de proposer des clés de lectures plutôt que des interprétations formelles, Guillaume Dénervaud décide de se soustraire au geste de la traduction. Il invite alors la curatrice et autrice Barbara Sirieix à se joindre au dialogue. Écrit en français, son texte, Callum Hills, intervient comme une troisième couche sédimentaire. Il résonne à la fois avec la nouvelle de Mark von Schlegell et avec les dessins de Guillaume Dénervaud. Bien que se chevauchant chronologiquement et fonctionnant de manière autonome, les trois éléments de ce livre s’observent, se répondent et tentent de former un tout.
